ST MONICA SCHOOL A GREAT HOPE OF THE MANY: St Monica English Medium School is a humble and notable institution which was established on 1st June 2003 in Kumbla which is 10 KM away from Kasaragod, Kerala.

Years of history and education

The kindergarten and 1st standard opened in June 2003 with just 77 children. Sr. Vincenza from the Society of the Sisters of Charity guided the school for six months. St Monica Institution for Computer Education was established in April 2003 for external students, and the extension of the school building began in October 2003.

Sr. Roshini was officially appointed as the Principal of St Monica English Medium School on November 15, 2003, serving for six months. Sr. Pauline took charge from May 1, 2006, until January 2, 2007. The school building extension started in January 2007, with slab work completed by May 24, 2007.

On May 30, 2007, the ground was prepared by clearing trees, and a new open stage was constructed. Sr. Rosy (Sr. Ursula) was appointed as the new principal, under whose leadership the sports day was held in January 2007. She served until May 30, 2009. Rev. Fr. Alban Rodrigues became the school correspondent on July 1, 2007, managing the school until June 15, 2011.

Sr. Britto served as principal from June 1, 2009, to May 5, 2010. Sr. Cicily was responsible for tailoring, embroidery, and fashion designing.

Sr. Aleyamma served the institution from May 6, 2010, to May 30, 2014. Fr. Marcel Saldanha was appointed as the new correspondent on June 14, 2011. During his tenure, a separate kindergarten building and conference hall were constructed. The computer room, CCTV, and necessary furniture were also set up. Thanks to the hard work of Fr. Marcel Saldanha and Sr. Aleyamma, the school secured the NOC from Trivandrum (G.O.(MS) No 280/2013) on October 19, 2013.

Sr. Alice became principal on June 1, 2014. The last two SSLC batches achieved a 100% pass rate in CBSE Board exams. She served the institution tirelessly until May 2018.

Fr. Marcel Saldanha worked towards converting St Monica English Medium School into a CBSE school. Due to their efforts, along with Sr. Alice’s leadership, the school officially became affiliated with CBSE on October 6, 2015.

Fr. Anil Prakash D’Souza was appointed as principal and correspondent on June 1, 2018. He emphasized skill development and increased children’s participation in various activities. Curricular and co-curricular activities were introduced, and a new band set was acquired. Training was provided by renowned bandmaster Mr. Ronald D’Souza, with students showcasing a band performance on Independence Day, August 15. Additionally, the Bulbul and guides programs were introduced to instill values such as leadership, creativity, and teamwork.

This year, we also added scouts and cubs programs to further develop skills and values in students. Mass drill sessions with hoops and dumbbells were incorporated, with students performing a drill during the annual day celebration.

The management introduced school bus facilities in June 2019, benefiting 33 students. A new generator was acquired in August 2019, and the science laboratory was upgraded to enhance the teaching and learning experience.

As student enrollment increased this year, the school improved its infrastructure and provided all necessary equipment for smooth operations. The management also added three additional classrooms for the upcoming academic year in June 2020.

Currently, there are 622 children studying at our school, supported by 28 qualified teachers and 4 administrative staff members. As we progress, we continue to “keep looking up,” learning from the past, dreaming about the future, and striving for excellence. After all, there is nothing like a beautiful sunset.
